US and Iran sign 14‑point memorandum to end hostilities and reopen Hormuz

The United States and Iran have electronically signed a 14‑point Memorandum of Understanding that formally ends the war between them. The agreement calls for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including the offensive in Lebanon, and establishes a 60‑day window to negotiate a final peace deal on Iran’s nuclear programme. During that period Iran will guarantee free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States will lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports within 30 days and begin freeing Iranian assets frozen abroad. Tehran reaffirmed that it will not acquire or develop nuclear weapons, with any remaining highly‑enriched uranium to be diluted under IAEA supervision. The memorandum also outlines a reconstruction plan worth at least $300 billion, to be financed with contributions from regional partners, and commits the United States to lift all sanctions, including UN Security Council resolutions, once the final agreement is ratified. NATO’s secretary‑general welcomed the deal and said the alliance could assist in guaranteeing safe transit through the strait if requested.
