GAA County Championship: 11 clubs chase historic titles

Eleven clubs are competing in the 2026 GAA senior football and hurling championships with the opportunity to end long-standing title droughts. These clubs have reached at least the semi-final stage, with some seeking their first-ever senior crowns.

In Laois, Courtwood is preparing for its second consecutive senior football final following a 2-16 to 0-20 extra-time victory over St Joseph’s. They are scheduled to face Portarlington on October 11, seeking redemption after losing a replay to the same opponent last year.

Garrymore is aiming to end a 44-year wait for a Mayo senior football title. After defeating Belmullet 2-16 to 2-15 in extra time, they will face Castlebar Mitchels in the final, the same team they defeated in 1982.

In Dublin, Castleknock has reached the senior football final for the first time since 2016. Following a 0-26 to 3-12 win over Thomas Davis, they will face Cuala in the final on October 18 as they search for their first championship at that level.
