Gabon advances energy and infrastructure through new oil deals and local industry initiatives
Gabon is implementing several strategic initiatives across its energy, infrastructure, and financial sectors. In the energy sector, the Ministry of Petroleum and Gas announced a gradual return to normal fuel supplies in Greater Libreville starting October 4, 2026, following temporary stock shortages. To manage the transition, authorities implemented temporary rationing until a new import shipment arrives.
In a move to boost offshore production, the Gabonese government has signed a ten-year contract with the Norwegian company TGS. The agreement focuses on reprocessing seismic data to better highlight deep and ultra-deepwater hydrocarbon potential, aiming to attract international major oil companies to the country’s maritime basins.
Meanwhile, the first edition of the African Infrastructure Salon (SAIL 2026) in Libreville has highlighted local industry interests. The Union of Automobile and Industrial Representatives (URAI) has called for public tenders to prioritize local companies with established maintenance capacities and spare parts availability. Additionally, companies like GIEEBI are showcasing expertise in water, electricity, and construction services to support national development projects.
