Gabon allocates 55 billion FCFA to strengthen healthcare system

Gabon has announced a massive 55 billion FCFA investment to strengthen its national healthcare system. The initiative, announced by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema on August 30, 2026, aims to modernize medical infrastructure and improve access to quality care for millions of citizens.

A significant portion of the funds, totaling 44 billion FCFA, is specifically allocated to upgrading the country’s technical medical platform. This investment focuses on acquiring advanced biomedical equipment, such as scanners and MRI machines, for public hospitals. By improving local diagnostic capabilities, the government intends to reduce the need for costly medical evacuations to the capital or abroad, particularly for patients living in rural or inland areas.
