Gabon and Africa host major audiovisual and media literacy events
The 6th edition of the Salon des métiers de l’audiovisuel et du numérique (SAMEAU) is scheduled to take place from September 16 to 19, 2026, at the National Museum in Libreville. Under the theme ‘Between memory and innovation: artificial intelligence at the service of our cultural heritage,’ the event will feature the ‘Samo Shoot’ national photography competition to document Gabon’s landscapes, traditions, and historical figures.
Organizers aim to create a digital national photo library to preserve historical archives. The program includes masterclasses and workshops on journalism, video editing, drone piloting, and the use of artificial intelligence in content creation.
Separately, the inaugural African Media and Information Literacy Salon (SALEMI) will be held ahead of Global MIL Week 2026. Organized by the Pan-African Association for Media and Information Education, the event focuses on media, digital citizenship, and democracy. The salon brings together various academic and institutional partners to address information vulnerabilities among youth and promote pedagogical methods for social inclusion. Mayotte is participating to highlight local efforts in teaching digital discernment and source verification.
