Gabon and European Union launch second political dialogue to deepen economic cooperation

On 8 June 2026, Gabon and the European Union opened the second political dialogue in Libreville, co‑presided by Gabonese Vice‑President Hermann Immongault and EU Ambassador Cécile Abadie. The talks marked a shift from traditional diplomatic exchanges toward concrete economic partnership, with both sides pledging to boost investment, infrastructure, energy, rail transport, waste management and sustainable fishing.

The dialogue highlighted Gabon’s recent reforms under its new Fifth Republic, aiming to move beyond raw‑material dependence toward higher‑value‑added industries. EU officials referenced the Global Gateway strategy, cooperation with the IMF, and the Samoa Agreement as frameworks for joint action on governance, the rule of law and sustainable development.

Participants included Gabon’s ministers, the Secretary‑General of the Government and ambassadors from several EU member states. Both parties reaffirmed their intent to strengthen cooperation mechanisms in economic, institutional and environmental domains, signalling a deeper, investment‑focused partnership between Libreville and Brussels.
