Gabon distributes 560 million CFA francs to families affected by urban projects

The Gabonese Minister of Housing, Urbanism, and Cadastre, Mays Mouissi, presided over a ceremony in Libreville to distribute compensation payments to families affected by road development projects. A total of 79 families from the Akemidjogoni and Baie des Cochons neighborhoods are receiving a combined 560 million CFA francs.

Individual payments vary based on the assessment of impacted property and assets, with some owners receiving up to 47 million CFA francs. To collect the funds, beneficiaries must present their payment titles to the Public Treasury services. This initiative is part of a broader effort to manage land and real estate issues arising from infrastructure works in the capital.

While the distribution marks a significant step in addressing the displacement caused by urban planning, some residents have expressed concerns regarding whether the amounts adequately cover the loss of homes, businesses, and land. This current phase is the first stage of the compensation process; further files are currently being processed for subsequent phases.
