Gabon Education Ministry addresses recruitment and teacher benefits

Gabon’s Minister of State for National Education, Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq, has outlined plans to address civil service recruitment and improve benefits for educational personnel.

Regarding employment, the minister met with the National Movement of Visionaries of Gabon to discuss 1,500 budgeted posts and 750 pending applications. While many applicants hold diverse degrees in fields such as law and psychology, the ministry’s immediate priority remains recruiting teachers for traditional subjects and filling administrative and technical gaps. Leclercq noted that delays in processing files are due to necessary administrative checks on diplomas and matching candidates to specific requirements.

In addition to recruitment, the ministry is working to improve the living standards of educators. Leclercq announced plans to establish a commission with banking institutions to facilitate access to credit, helping teachers acquire land, homes, vehicles, and computers. The ministry is also reviewing 539 hectares of land in the Ayémé plain designated for the educational community and aims to extend property access initiatives to teachers in various provinces.
