Gabon intensifies cybersecurity response after 900,000 attack alerts

The Gabonese government is intensifying its response to a surge in cyber threats following the detection of over 900,000 intrusion alerts within a two-month period. These alerts have targeted critical national infrastructure, including the Société d’Énergie et d’Eau du Gabon (SEEG) and the Conseil Gabonais des Chargeurs (CGC).

In response, Minister of Digital Economy Mark-Alexandre Doumba and Vice-President Hermann Immongault have called for reinforced vigilance, audits, and improved incident response mechanisms. The ransomware group Krybit claimed responsibility for an attack on the CGC in late August 2026. Authorities are emphasizing digital sovereignty and the protection of public services, utilizing existing cybersecurity laws to strengthen the nation's defensive posture against increasingly critical threats.
