Gabon Food Safety Agency AGASA Seizes Unsafe Products and Defends Exported Beverages

The Gabonese Agency for Food Safety (AGASA) seized 342 food items in the Haut‑Ogooué province after inspections revealed that they were past their use‑by dates, posing a risk of food‑borne illness. The seized goods were destroyed to prevent a public‑health threat.

Separately, AGASA responded to the blocking of a shipment of Gabonese beverages from the Société des Brasseries du Gabon (Sobraga) destined for France. The agency said the drinks comply with the Codex Alimentarius standards and that the factories have ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 certification. AGASA indicated it had forwarded its findings to the French importer on 21 March 2025, while critics on social media questioned the differing EU and Gabonese standards and called for full laboratory reports.
