Gabon government allocates 10 bn CFA to depositors and deepens cooperation with United States

The Gabonese state has released an initial tranche of 10 billion CFA francs to compensate 60,671 former clients of the publicly owned postal bank Poste SA, whose accounts have been frozen since the mid‑2010s. The payout, amounting to roughly €15 million, is presented as the first step in clearing a long‑standing social liability and restoring confidence in public financial services.

In a separate meeting in Libreville, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema received U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Population, Refugees and Migration Christian Ehrhardt. The talks focused on strengthening Gabon‑U.S. ties, including Gabon's reinstatement into the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and prospects for U.S. investment in projects such as the Kobe‑Kobé integrated complex. Both initiatives signal the transitional government's effort to spur economic development and improve international partnerships.
