Gabon launches provincial anti‑statelessness campaign in Ngounié

On 8 July 2026 the Gabonese government officially started a provincial awareness campaign against statelessness in Mouila, Ngounié. The event was chaired by Aimé Rodolf Moukambi Boma, representative of the minister of Social Affairs, and attended by local administrative and judicial authorities.

The campaign, part of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema’s national development plan, aims to inform residents about the risks of lacking civil‑status registration, which “prives de nombreux Gabonais de leurs droits fondamentaux, notamment l’accès à l’éducation, à la santé et à l’emploi.” Organisers will promote systematic birth registration and the benefits of possessing a birth certificate. After the launch in Ngounié, the effort will continue on Thursday in the Tsamba‑Magotsi department.

The initiative reflects the government’s broader policy to improve social justice and inclusion by reducing statelessness, a “préoccupation majeure” that denies individuals legal identity and access to essential services.
