Gabon launches third Caravane Touristique to drive sustainable tourism growth

The Gabonese government inaugurated the third edition of the Caravane Touristique on 17 July, with Minister of Sustainable Tourism and Handicrafts Marcelle Ibinga (also known as Itsitsa) opening the program from Libreville's Esplanade Dialogue. The caravan will travel across the country until 6 September, taking participants to sites such as Mouila, Koulamoutou, Franceville and Moanda to showcase the nation’s biodiversity, cultural heritage and artisanal skills. Officials present the initiative as a strategic move to diversify Gabon’s economy away from natural‑resource dependence, create jobs, promote regional cohesion and position tourism as a pillar of future growth.

The tour is part of a broader government push for sustainable tourism, aiming to turn natural and cultural assets into long‑term economic drivers and to raise Gabon's profile internationally.
