Gabon marks 66th independence anniversary

Gabon celebrated the 66th anniversary of its independence with national addresses and regional festivities. In a speech to the nation, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema emphasized the importance of protecting sovereignty and refounding the country to meet modern demands. He highlighted Gabon's recent diplomatic efforts across Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia, aimed at restoring the nation's international standing and building respectful partnerships.

In the commune of Bitam, celebrations were led by interim Ntem Department Prefect Blaise Ondo Obiang. The event featured a large parade at the Place des fêtes involving administrative authorities, security forces, and civil society. The festivities also had a sub-regional dimension, with delegations attending from Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, reflecting the historical and cultural ties within the border region.
