Gabon opens 2026-2027 judicial year with new magistrate appointments
The 2026-2027 judicial year officially commenced on October 5, 2026, at the Libreville Palace of Justice in Gabon. The opening ceremony was attended by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who serves as the president of the Superior Council of the Magistracy.
During the session, three high-ranking magistrates were installed to lead key judicial pillars: André Wora Alonda as the first president of the Court of Cassation, Jean-Gaspard Mintsa Ondo as the general commissioner to the Law near the Council of State, and Pamphile Moussavou Ibouanga as the first president of the Court of Accounts. These appointments follow a session of the Superior Council of the Magistracy held in Port-Gentil on September 16.
The new judicial year follows recent consultative meetings between the presidency and judicial representatives, including the National Union of Gabonese Magistrates (Synamag). The administration has emphasized the need for judicial performance, impartiality, and efficiency to support national transformation and economic security.
