Gabon President advances Fifth Republic democratic reforms
Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema met with Séraphin Moundounga, president of the National Commission for Democracy and Citizen Participation, to discuss the implementation of the country’s Fifth Republic. The commission, which succeeds the National Council for Democracy, is part of a 2026 institutional reform aimed at strengthening democratic stability.
The new framework includes the creation of a Democracy Observatory tasked with analyzing political life and electoral campaigns. Discussions focused on the technical setup of the commission, including the constitution of its bureau, the establishment of various sub-commissions, and the development of operational texts to ensure citizen concerns are effectively integrated into public decision-making.
