Gabon and Chad mark independence anniversaries with diplomacy and infrastructure focus

Several African nations are marking their 66th independence anniversaries with a focus on national unity and regional diplomacy.

In Gabon, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema is overseeing major infrastructure projects across Libreville and the Ogooué-Ivindo province in preparation for the Liberation Day celebrations on August 30. The President has held consultations with local leaders to ensure development projects, including 17 structural works in Makokou, meet local needs. Additionally, Gabon is hosting high-level diplomatic visits from the presidents of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Guinea-Bissau to strengthen political and economic ties.

In Chad, President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno addressed the nation, emphasizing social cohesion and the importance of national unity. The celebrations in N’Djamena included a military parade and the attendance of several foreign heads of state, including leaders from Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. The event also highlighted the strengthening of bilateral relations between Chad and Burkina Faso, with officials calling for enhanced strategic cooperation to address regional stability and economic challenges.
