Gabon President Oligui Nguema's West African Diplomatic Tour

President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon conducted a series of state visits to Gambia, Ghana and Sierra Leone in late July and early August 2026. In Banjul he was received with military honors and, together with President Adama Barrow, signed four bilateral instruments – a general cooperation agreement, the creation of a mixed commission, a visa‑exemption for diplomatic and service passports and a memorandum establishing a permanent political‑consultation mechanism.

In Accra he toured the Zonda Tec automobile assembly plant, examining the feasibility of replicating a similar facility in Gabon as part of a broader push to diversify the Gabonese economy and deepen South‑South industrial cooperation. The visit was followed by a state visit to Freetown on 2 August 2026, where President Julius Maada Bio and President Nguema discussed expanding trade, investment, technology and sustainable‑development ties.

The diplomatic itinerary also featured a $600 million public‑private partnership announced by the Cornerstone Group to build 10 000 affordable housing units in Gabon, underscoring the economic‑development dimension of the tour.
