Gabon: President Oligui Nguema meets religious leader and marks National Flag Day

In Gabon, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema recently hosted Alain Mayama, the Superior General of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritains). During the meeting, Mayama announced that the religious congregation has reached maturity in Gabon, transitioning from an implantation phase to being fully managed by local Gabonese ecclesiastical leaders.

The congregation intends to reorient its international efforts to support local development projects in education and health, aligning with national priorities.

Separately, Gabon marked its 17th National Flag Day on August 9. President Oligui Nguema participated in celebrations in Libreville, commemorating the first hoisting of the national flag in 1960.

Political activity also included the President's return from a West African tour involving Ghana, Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Côte d'Ivoire. Additionally, the Ministry of Civil Service has initiated a project to reform the general status of the civil service and its officials, a process currently undergoing preliminary discussions.
