Gabon Ranked Third Riskiest Destination for Solo Travelers in 2026 Survey

A Squaremouth report released on 23 July 2026 placed Gabon at rank 3 among the world’s riskiest destinations for solo travelers, assigning it a risk score of 8.51 out of 10. The ranking, which covered 113 countries, weighed factors such as access to medical care, safety perception, peace index, internet connectivity and hospital‑bed availability. Gabon’s low score stems primarily from its weak health infrastructure – only two hospital beds per 1,000 residents – rather than high crime levels.

The report, which also named San Marino the safest solo‑travel spot and Venezuela the most dangerous, influences travel‑insurance pricing and tourists’ destination choices. Gabon’s tourism authorities, currently promoting a sustainable tourism strategy, see the ranking as a challenge that underscores the need to improve medical services to attract independent travelers.

Countries listed among other high‑risk destinations include Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and South Africa, while the safest list features Andorra, Singapore, Austria and several European nations.
