Gabon Rejoins US African Growth and Opportunity Act Trade Program

The United States reinstated Gabon in the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) after a presidential decree signed on 20 May by President Donald Trump. The move ends a suspension that began after Gabon's power transition in late 2023 and follows months of diplomatic dialogue. Gabon’s President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema met U.S. Deputy Under‑Secretary for Population, Refugees and Migration Christian Ehrhardt in Libreville on 20 June, emphasizing the country’s development agenda, including the Kobe‑Kobe integrated port‑industrial complex. Re‑admission is valid through 31 December 2026, granting duty‑free access for about 1,800 Gabonese products to the U.S. market and adding to existing eligible items. Both sides pledged to expand investment and cooperation in strategic sectors.
