Gabon reports audited debt of 9,524 billion FCFA and second-highest CEMAC export portfolio

Gabon has released the results of an official audit of its state debt and payable liabilities as of December 31, 2025. The audited debt stock is recorded at 9,524.643 billion FCFA, representing 68.91 percent of the nation's gross domestic product (GDP). This figure follows a reduction from an initial estimate of approximately 11,700 billion FCFA, effectively trimming 2,175 billion FCFA from the previous projection. The audit utilized international standards, including the IMF guide on public sector debt statistics.

In regional trade developments, Gabon holds the second-largest portfolio of approved export products within the CEMAC zone, with 249 products from 14 companies. While Gabon leads countries such as Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, and the Central African Republic in approved products, it remains significantly behind Cameroon, which has 1,328 approved products. Analysts note that Gabon faces structural challenges in converting these regulatory approvals into actual export volumes due to industrial capacity and logistical constraints.
