Gabon Signs Border Deal with Equatorial Guinea, Begins Agenda 2063 Mission

On 28 July 2026, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea signed a General Competence Agreement in Addis Ababa during the 49th ordinary session of the African Union Executive Council. The pact implements the International Court of Justice's 19 May 2025 judgment that settled the long‑standing land, maritime and island (Mbanié, Conga, Cocotiers) dispute between the neighbours. The agreement was signed by Equatorial Guinea’s foreign minister Siméon Oyono Esono Angue and Gabon’s constitutional court president Dieudonné Aba’a Owono, in the presence of AU officials and diplomatic representatives, signalling a peaceful, institutional resolution.

At the same time, Gabon’s Ministry of Planning and Prospective launched a domestication mission for the African Union’s Agenda 2063, scheduled for 27‑31 July 2026. The mission aims to translate the continent‑wide development framework into Gabon’s national policies, with a focus on strengthening infrastructure, logistics and broader economic transformation. Officials highlighted the need for a coherent implementation plan to ensure the agenda’s goals drive inclusive growth and sustainable development within the country.
