Gabon’s CNAMGS launches Fonds 4 health scheme for informal workers

On 27 July 2026 the Caisse Nationale d’Assurance Maladie et de Garantie Sociale (CNAMGS) formally launched the new Fonds 4 in Franceville, the capital of Haut‑Ogooué province in southeastern Gabon. The ceremony, chaired by provincial governor Jacques Denis Tsanga and attended by local officials and community leaders, introduced a health‑insurance mechanism for independent workers, voluntary contributors and people employed in the informal sector, including traders, artisans, liberal‑profession practitioners, domestic workers, drivers, gardeners, caretakers and legally residing foreigners.

Fonds 4 provides beneficiaries with access to consultations, hospitalisation, medical examinations, emergency evacuations and medication. Contributions are payable quarterly and calculated on the basis of each person’s economic activity. CNAMGS officials say the scheme will also cleanse the existing low‑income register (Fonds 3) by moving eligible earners into the new category. Following the launch, CNAMGS teams will conduct outreach and registration drives in markets, bus stations and vocational centres throughout the province.
