Gabriel Amard elected to Senate, triggering National Assembly succession
Gabriel Amard, a member of La France insoumise (LFI), has been elected to the Senate representing the Rhône department. Amard secured 374 votes in the indirect senatorial election, a result that exceeded initial projections and marked the first time LFI has secured a seat in the Senate.
Following his election to the Senate, Amard will vacate his current seat in the National Assembly for the 6th constituency of Rhône. He will be succeeded by his substitute, Melouka Hadj-Mimoune. A member of the Socialist Party (PS) and an official in Villeurbanne, Hadj-Mimoune has focused her political engagement on housing rights and combating homelessness.
