Gabriel Boric urges Chilean progressives to reconnect with citizens

Former President Gabriel Boric has called on progressive and leftist forces in Chile to expand their dialogue with those holding different political views to rebuild a parliamentary majority. Speaking during the 120th anniversary of the University of Chile Student Federation (FECh), Boric acknowledged that the left is currently not the majority in the country.

Boric emphasized that political groups must move beyond internal discussions and engage directly with the population in public spaces like plazas and community centers. He noted that many citizens are currently facing economic hardships, including difficulty making ends meet, and argued that political work must address these practical concerns rather than remaining confined to ideological circles.

Other progressive leaders expressed similar sentiments. Gael Yeomans, president of Frente Amplio, highlighted the need to connect with citizens regarding employment, the cost of living, and neighborhood security. Raúl Soto, president of the PPD, added that the movement must recognize its own errors and prioritize common sense over extreme ideological positions to regain public trust.
