Gabriel Bortoleto receives 80-position grid penalty at US Grand Prix

Formula 1 driver Gabriel Bortoleto faced a record-breaking 80-position grid penalty during the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. The Audi driver was penalized following extensive replacements of his power unit components, including the internal combustion engine, turbocharger, exhaust system, MGU-K, and multiple electronic and energy storage units.

Despite starting from the back of the grid in 22nd position, Bortoleto managed to complete a recovery drive, finishing the race in 13th place. He noted that while the performance of the new engine was encouraging and allowed for several overtakes, the necessity of fighting through the field caused significant tire degradation, which ultimately limited his ability to score points.

Bortoleto expressed a mix of frustration and optimism, stating that the team showed strong rhythm throughout the weekend. He is now looking forward to the next round in Mexico, hoping for a more competitive result without similar technical penalties.
