Gabriel Elizondo proposes national food aid for hospital caregivers

Senator Gabriel Elizondo Pérez of the Institutional Revolutionary Party has introduced a legislative initiative to provide food assistance to caregivers and family members of patients in public health institutions across Mexico.

The proposal seeks to amend the General Health Law by adding Article 180 Bis. This amendment would mandate public health establishments to implement support systems such as dining halls, prepared meals, vouchers, economic resources, or in-kind assistance.

Priority for these benefits would be given to vulnerable populations, including those in poverty, and individuals accompanying children, adolescents, seniors, or persons with disabilities. The initiative is modeled after existing food support programs in the state of Coahuila, led by Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas, and aims to mitigate the financial strain caused by hospitalization-related expenses like food, transport, and lodging.
