Gabriel Escarrer awarded honorary MBE by King Charles III

Gabriel Escarrer, President and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, has been appointed an honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by King Charles III. The honor recognizes his services to British citizens in Spain.

Escarrer has been credited with promoting responsible tourism in the Balearic Islands and supporting the British government’s ‘Stick With Your Mates’ campaign, which aimed to improve safety for young British visitors. Additionally, the award acknowledges his economic contributions to the United Kingdom, where Meliá Hotels International has invested over £400 million and created thousands of jobs over the last 25 years.

Alex Ellis, the British Ambassador to Spain, stated that Escarrer has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the safety of British citizens and the strengthening of ties between the two nations.
