Gabriel García Márquez centenary celebrations announced in Aracataca and Madrid

Preparations are underway to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Nobel Prize-winning Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez. As the milestone approaches, various cultural initiatives and audiovisual adaptations are being organized to honor his legacy.

In Aracataca, the author's birthplace in the Magdalena department, the ‘Misión Aracataca’ has been launched. This plan aims to transform the municipality into a major cultural and tourism hub by 2027 through heritage recovery and creative workshops. The ongoing Macondo Festival serves as part of this agenda, featuring literary, musical, and gastronomic activities.

International tributes are also planned, including cultural projects in Madrid and involvement from Netflix.
