Gabriel Javé wins New Talents award at Cerrado Mapping Festival

Artist Gabriel Javé Ferreira Vieira won the ‘Novos Talentos’ (New Talents) category at the fifth edition of the Cerrado Mapping Festival held in Uberlândia, Brazil. His award-winning work, titled ‘Travessia’, was projected onto the facade of the Palácio dos Leões at Praça Clarimundo Carneiro.

The piece is a five-episode video mapping narrative that incorporates elements of traditional popular art, such as cordel literature and woodcut (xilogravura). The work explores themes of memory, resistance, and environmental regeneration within the Cerrado biome, depicting a cycle of drought, destruction, and the eventual rebirth of nature.

The festival, which took place between August 20 and 22, serves as a significant showcase for digital art and attracted large crowds to the center of Uberlândia.
