FC Barcelona defeats Feyenoord 5-1 in Champions League opener

FC Barcelona opened their UEFA Champions League campaign with a dominant 5-1 victory over Feyenoord at the Spotify Camp Nou. Under manager Hansi Flick, the Spanish side displayed high intensity despite heavy rain. Raphinha led the scoring with two goals, while Karim Adeyemi, Lamine Yamal, and new signing Gabriel Jesus also found the net. Feyenoord's lone goal was scored by Sem Steijn in the 82nd minute.

Lamine Yamal made history during the match, becoming the youngest player to captain Barcelona's first team at 19 years and 58 days. Additionally, Pedri reached a milestone by making his 250th appearance for the club.

Off the pitch, Barcelona's sporting director Deco addressed recent transfer activities, explaining the decision to sign Anthony Gordon over Marcus Rashford to better suit the team's tactical requirements. The club also confirmed a contract extension for young Egyptian talent Hamza Abdelkarim through July 2030. Meanwhile, the failed pursuit of Julián Álvarez from Atlético de Madrid has reportedly prompted FIFA to review regulations regarding contract termination clauses to prevent clubs from blocking player movements with disproportionate release fees.
