Gabriel Medina and Isabella Arantes mourn loss of first child

Brazilian surf champion Gabriel Medina and his wife, influencer Isabella Arantes, announced that they were expecting their first child during their wedding ceremony on July 30 at Praia de Paúba in São Sebastião. Five days later, on August 4, the couple confirmed that a third‑month morphological exam showed the pregnancy had not progressed and the fetus had been lost.

Both posted statements on Instagram, with Medina sharing the brief message “Have faith, don’t rush” and Arantes writing that their “heart needs time” and asking for respect during days of silence, healing and trust in God. Despite the personal tragedy, Medina said he will continue his World Surf League commitments, traveling to Teahupo’o, Tahiti, for the next competition stage.

The couple thanked family, friends and fans for their support and requested privacy while they grieve.
