Gabriel Medina wins Philippines stage to take WSL vice-leadership

Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina won the Cloud 9 stage in the Philippines, marking his first WSL trophy this season and ending a nearly three-year winless streak in league stages. In the final, Medina defeated Australian Jack Robinson with a total score of 16.93 against 14.50.

This victory moves Medina from fifth to second place in the World Surf League (WSL) rankings with 53,210 points. He now trails only the current leader, fellow Brazilian Yago Dora, who has 54,950 points. Other surfers with mathematical chances for the world title include Ítalo Ferreira, Miguel Pupo, and Griffin Colapinto.

The season concludes with the final stage at Pipeline, Hawaii, scheduled for December 8 to 20. The final stage offers a higher maximum of 15,000 points for the winner, compared to 10,000 points in previous stages.
