Gabriel Moreno wins 2026 Luis Aparicio Award

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno has been named the winner of the 2026 Luis Aparicio Award, recognizing the most outstanding Venezuelan player in Major League Baseball during the regular season.

Moreno secured the award with 502 points, receiving 65 of the 100 first-place votes. He finished ahead of Jesús Luzardo of the Philadelphia Phillies, who earned 340 points, and teammate Eduardo Rodríguez, who received 218 points. Other finalists included Jackson Chourio, Willson Contreras, and Luis Arráez.

The recognition follows a historic season for the Barquisimeto native, who clinched the National League batting title with a .311 average. His performance was bolstered by a strong finish in his final 20 games, where he batted .377 with five home runs and 16 RBIs.

Moreno is the sixth Venezuelan to win the Luis Aparicio Award in the same season he won an MLB batting title, joining Magglio Ordóñez, Carlos González, Miguel Cabrera, José Altuve, and Luis Arráez. He is also only the second catcher to receive the distinction, following Salvador Pérez in 2021.
