Gabriel o Pensador awarded damages for unauthorized music use

A court in Rio de Janeiro has ordered businessman Dalbert Mega to pay R$ 50,000 in moral damages to singer Gabriel o Pensador. The ruling stems from the unauthorized use of the artist's music during a 2024 mayoral election campaign in Votuporanga, São Paulo.

According to the legal proceedings, Mega used the song for ten days during the electoral race without obtaining any prior license or permission. In addition to the fixed moral damages, the judge has ordered a liquidation phase to calculate material damages incurred during that period.
