Gabriel Rufián emerges as ERC's preferred candidate for Barcelona

Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) is moving forward with its internal processes for the upcoming general elections scheduled for November 29. ERC Secretary General Elisenda Alamany has indicated that the party intends to propose Gabriel Rufián to lead the candidate list for Barcelona.

Alamany described Rufián as the party’s “best value” for this upcoming call. The internal process to announce the full candidacy is expected to begin, with a formal announcement planned for October 17. Candidates will be required to collect at least 5% of endorsements to participate in the primaries.

Additionally, Alamany clarified the position of party leader Oriol Junqueras regarding the elections. Following discussions, it was noted that Junqueras aims to pursue the presidency of the Generalitat de Catalunya rather than seeking a seat in the general elections, particularly in light of the anticipated application of the amnesty law.
