Gabriel Ubach, prominent Andorran union leader, passes away
Gabriel Ubach, a prominent figure in Andorran trade unionism, has passed away at the age of 62 after battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. A funeral service was held at the church of Santa Eulàlia d'Encamp, attended by over one hundred people, including various government ministers and political leaders from across the ideological spectrum.
Ubach was a founding member of the Unió Sindical d'Andorra (USdA) in the late 1990s and served as its general secretary for over two decades. A former customs professional, he became a central interlocutor in national social dialogue, advocating for labor rights such as collective bargaining agreements, job protection, and severance pay. His death leaves a significant void in the country's labor movement, which has long relied on his leadership to represent workers' interests in discussions regarding public service reforms and housing crises.
