Gabriela Chumacero denounces hate speech against trans youth in Puebla

Gabriela Chumacero Rodríguez, a Morena deputy in Puebla, has denounced the appearance of graffiti containing messages against transgender children and youth. The messages, appearing on walls such as those on Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza near the local Congress, oppose reforms to the State Civil Code regarding gender identity recognition.

Chumacero Rodríguez warned that such messages promote fear, social harassment, and hate speech. While acknowledging that such slogans often claim protection under freedom of expression, she argued that public spaces should not be used to foster discrimination or restrict the human rights of minority groups. She cautioned that normalizing these discourses can escalate into physical aggression and social violence.

The deputy clarified that the legislative initiative aims to comply with a Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) ruling regarding gender identity recognition in official documents. She emphasized that the proposed administrative procedure for the civil registry does not include medical, surgical, or pharmacological interventions for minors under 18.
