Gabriela Heins releases book on nursing experiences

Gabriela Heins, a nurse with over 40 years of experience, is releasing her book, ‘Patient Pflege – Ansichten von innen’ (Patient Care – Views from Within), at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The book compiles her personal experiences across various sectors, including hospitals, nursing homes, and intensive home care, while also incorporating perspectives from other staff and patients.

Heins highlights critical systemic issues within the healthcare sector, specifically identifying the shortage of skilled workers as a primary concern. She notes that irregular working hours and the frequent requirement to work on scheduled days off contribute to burnout and early career exits. While acknowledging that better pay is a necessary sign of appreciation, she argues that financial incentives alone cannot resolve the structural problems. Instead, she advocates for high-quality training and better guidance for auxiliary staff to support the profession.
