Gabriela Sánchez and Claudia Rivera Vivanco challenge Puebla leadership

Gabriela “La Bonita” Sánchez, a professional boxer and former state Secretary of Sport, and Claudia Rivera Vivanco, a former mayor and federal deputy, are positioning themselves as leadership alternatives in Puebla.

Sánchez highlighted her tenure at the Secretariat of Sport and Youth, noting the historical payment of a debt exceeding 27 million pesos to the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE). Her administration also facilitated hosting major international events, including beach volleyball and archery world championships, as well as FIFA World Cup preparation matches.

Rivera Vivanco’s previous administration (2018–2021) focused on municipal financial recovery, liquidating a 630 million peso debt accumulated over 16 years. Both women are presented as contrasting figures to the current administration of Mayor Pepe Chedraui, who faces criticism regarding public services, security, and municipal debt.
