Gabriela Vargas wins gold at World Skate Games

Ecuadorian skater Gabriela Vargas won the gold medal in the women’s 15,000 metre elimination road race at the World Skate Games in Asunción, Paraguay, on Friday, October 16.

The 28-year-old Vargas finished ahead of Colombia’s Gabriela Rueda and Chinese Taipei’s Pei-Yu Shih to secure the world title. This victory followed a silver medal performance by Vargas earlier in the week in the 10,000 metre elimination event.

The competition highlights the strength of South American skaters in the discipline, as Vargas managed to overcome top competitors from Colombia during a week where Colombian athletes had otherwise dominated much of the track racing.
