Gabriele Guidi Rontani wins middleweight gold at Mediterranean Games

Gabriele Guidi Rontani, a 22-year-old Italian boxer, won the gold medal in the middleweight category at the Mediterranean Games held in Taranto. He secured the victory through a split decision against Frank Martinez Bernad.

The match was highly competitive. While some judges scored the bout 28-28, three out of five judges awarded Rontani a 29-27 victory. A decisive factor in the second round was a penalty point issued to Martinez Bernad following a warning, which allowed Rontani to gain control of the match.

Rontani's gold medal was the third for the Italian boxing team on that day, following victories by Irma Testa in the -57 kg category and Melissa Gemini in the -65 kg category. Following his win, Rontani expressed his excitement and stated that his next objective is Olympic qualification.
