Gabriele Politano granted house arrest in attempted murder case

Gabriele Politano, accused of attempted murder against a lawyer from the Castrovillari Bar, has been granted house arrest in Cosenza. The decision was made by the First Section of the Court of Appeal of Catanzaro following a request by his defense attorney.

Politano had been in pretrial detention since March 2025. This change in custody follows a ruling by the Supreme Court of Cassation, which had annulled a previous order, noting that the Catanzaro judges had failed to properly evaluate indicators suggesting a reduction in the need for precautionary detention.

During the first-degree trial, several aggravating factors were removed, including premeditation and trivial motives. Although the prosecution sought a sentence exceeding ten years, the judge sentenced Politano to six years. The defendant has expressed remorse and offered compensation, though the offer was rejected by the involved parties.
