European Gymnastics Championships: Targhetta wins historic gold

The 2026 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Zagreb have seen several historic performances across various apparatus finals.

Italian gymnast Gabriele Targhetta secured a historic gold medal on the pommel horse with a score of 15.133, marking the first time an Italian has won this event at the continental level. In the junior category, Italian gymnasts Riccardo Ruggeri and Pietro Mazzola achieved a one-two finish on the horizontal bar.

Israeli gymnast Artem Dolgopyat claimed his third European floor exercise title with a score of 14.466. Meanwhile, Cyprus' Marios Georgiou received the Shooting Star award for his career achievements and earned a silver medal on the high bar.

Other notable results include Nazar Chepurnyi winning gold on vault, Ilia Kovtun taking gold on parallel bars, and Joe Fraser winning the high bar final. The competition continues with upcoming team and junior all-around finals.
