GAC AION UT electric hatchback receives five-star ANCAP safety rating
The GAC AION UT electric hatchback has earned a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) under the 2026–2028 assessment criteria. The vehicle demonstrated strong performance in crash protection and collision avoidance, specifically achieving high scores in side-impact assessments and autonomous emergency braking (AEB) scenarios involving vehicles, motorcycles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
In crash protection, the model recorded a 90 per cent score, supported by a center airbag designed to reduce occupant collision risk during far-side impacts. While results were strong in frontal and run-off-road tests, ANCAP noted mixed results in full-width frontal tests regarding chest protection for small female drivers and some deductions for crash compatibility in head-on collisions. Pedestrian protection showed strong results for pelvis and leg safety but weaker head protection in certain areas.
The rating applies to all AION UT variants manufactured from January 2026 onwards and is valid until December 2034. The model launched in Australia in April 2026 and in New Zealand in May 2026.
