GAC tests HYPTEC S600 EREV endurance at high speeds
GAC has conducted a high-intensity endurance test of its HYPTEC S600, an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV), to demonstrate the stability of its range-extension technology. The test took place at the Chongqing Western Automotive Proving Ground on a 5.4-kilometer high-speed oval track featuring banked turns of up to 45 degrees.
Starting with a battery charge of only 10%, the vehicle was required to maintain speeds of at least 165 km/h for over two hours. During the two-hour and four-minute trial, the HYPTEC S600 reached instantaneous speeds of 193 km/h. The vehicle's EREV system, which utilizes a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine to generate electricity, maintained a continuous electrical power output of 85 kW.
Despite the low initial charge, the battery level remained stable, ending the test at 12%. The system achieved a fuel-to-electricity conversion efficiency of 3.73 kWh per liter, proving the capability of the EREV system to support electric propulsion under continuous high-load conditions.
