GACKT discusses Japanese language nuances after gift confusion
Musician and actor GACKT has shared an anecdote regarding the complexities of the Japanese language following a gift from actress Fumi Nikaido on the set of the Fuji TV drama ‘Black Trick’.
Nikaido sent peaches as a refreshment for the production staff. However, GACKT noted that despite the fruit being delicious, no one on set touched them for an hour. He discovered the cause was a polite note attached to the gift which read, ‘From Fumi Nikaido to GACKT’s staff’.
Due to the phrasing, the crew misinterpreted the message to mean the peaches were strictly reserved for GACKT’s personal staff, preventing others from eating them. GACKT remarked on social media that ‘excessive politeness can sometimes distance people from the peaches,’ highlighting how nuanced language can lead to unintended social barriers.
Separately, the upcoming sixth episode of ‘Black Trick’ features a plot involving a mysterious house and political pressure regarding an expo site, with GACKT playing a lawyer who uses deception to uncover the truth.
