GACKT faces criticism over NISA investment comments
Japanese musician and entertainer GACKT has faced online criticism following the resurfacing of a video in which he questioned the logic of individuals using the NISA (Nippon Individual Savings Account) system.
In a video originally released in early 2026, GACKT criticized people who invest in NISA without understanding the underlying mechanisms of how profits are generated, labeling such behavior as “thoughtless.” He questioned why people follow the trend without being able to explain the structure of their investments.
Social media users have responded by pointing out perceived inaccuracies in his terminology, such as the phrase “investing in NISA” rather than “investing via NISA.” Additionally, commenters have drawn parallels to GACKT’s past involvement with the cryptocurrency project SPINDLE. In 2017, GACKT served as a core member and spokesperson for SPINDLE, which raised approximately 22 billion yen before its value plummeted in 2018. While GACKT has previously denied allegations of profiting from the crash, the controversy has resurfaced alongside his recent comments on NISA.
