Gadchiroli ranks first in NITI Aayog Delta Ranking
Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra has secured the first position nationwide in NITI Aayog’s Delta Ranking for the April-June 2026 quarter. This assessment, conducted under the Aspirational Districts Programme, measures progress based on key human development indicators. Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir followed in second place.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attributed this achievement to structural reforms and targeted government interventions. Key drivers of the district's progress include water conservation efforts, such as the construction of over 6,000 water storage structures, which have improved groundwater levels and rural water security.
Other significant improvements include enhanced female education through the provision of separate sanitation facilities in remote tribal schools to reduce dropout rates, and strengthened financial inclusion via streamlined Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT). Additionally, the district has focused on industrial skill development through vocational courses in partnership with corporations like Mahindra, Lloyds, and Tata Trusts.
Looking forward, the Chief Minister aims to transform Gadchiroli into a major ‘Green Steel Hub’ by leveraging its local mineral resources, including high-quality iron ore, manganese, and limestone, marking a significant shift for a region previously known for Maoist insurgency.
